Emerging Drugs for Neuropathic Pain
Suh Bum-Chun

Abstract
Neuropathic pain is defined as ¡®pain arising as a direct consequence of a lesion or disease affecting the somatosensory system¡¯, and can be a chronic debilitating condition. Recently published treatment guidelines for neuropathic pain indicated that tricyclic antidepressant, calcium channel ¥á2-¥ä ligands, serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, 5% lidocaine patch and tramadol might be the first or the second line agents for neuropathic pain. But, these drugs have their own defects such as not sufficient efficacy, side effects, frequent dosing interval, pharmacodynamics problem, and drug interactions. Recently developed and developing drugs are overcoming some defects of these ones and this review introduces a few new drugs for neuropathic pain.
